We are delighted to announce England’s best beaches –
winners of the international Blue Flag and our Seaside Awards 2018.
As we celebrate presenting 190 awards in 2018 (65 Blue Flags
and 125 Seaside awards across 148 beaches), new research says that two thirds
of parents are given the confidence that a beach is a clean, safe place for
their children, thanks to our awards. With 15% saying they’ll only ever go to
an award-winning beach, these really are the quality mark for England’s very
best, cleanest and safest beaches.
Following hot on the heels of our Great British Spring Clean
and Great Plastic Pick Up campaigns, along with our year-round projects to
protect beaches and waterways, today’s announcement is part of our ongoing
commitment to support and celebrate the country’s best beaches for everyone to
Our Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “Keep
Britain Tidy leads the fight for clean, plastic-free beaches. We are committed
to creating a great environment on our doorstep for everyone to enjoy and
offering a quality mark that shows everyone just how fantastic our beaches can
be. Blue Flag and Seaside Awards set the standard for our beaches.
“It’s brilliant to see so many beaches winning Blue Flag
and Seaside Award status this year, thanks to dedication and hard work of beach
staff and volunteers who work tireless to maintain the high standards.”
And today, award-winning beach managers and staff from
across the country are joining the Keep Britain Tidy team at Cromer Pier
(hosted by North Norfolk District Council) to celebrate their wonderful
award-winning beaches and the efforts that go into keeping them at such a high
standard for all to enjoy.
This year with 98.3% of bathing waters reaching safe
standards and 92% of achieving 'excellent' or 'good' water quality standards, we look forward to even more beaches applying for our awards next year.
